How to think about Science | Episode 1 - Steven Shapin and Simon Schaffer

"You've got to make sure that people have a very good understanding of how scientists achieve an understanding of the world and through that you can get people to understand the view of the world that sciences produce, what its worth, its status and its contents. And without that you don't have citizens. You don't have intelligent citizens who can take part fully in the debates that really matter whether that's about nuclear disarmament or global warming."

— Stephen Shapin
If we don’t want a total surveillance society, we must consider surveillance a kind of social pollution, and limit the surveillance impact of each new digital system just as we limit the environmental impact of physical construction.

"We teach girls shame.
Close your legs, cover yourself,
we make them feel as though being born female they’re already guilty of something.
As so, girls grow up to be women who cannot say they have desire.
They grow up to be women who silence themselves.
They grow up to be women who cannot say what they truely think.
And they grow up- and this is the worst thing we do to girls - they grow up to be women who have turned pretence into an art form."

"My name is Janez Janša is a documentary film about names and name changes, focusing on one particular and rather unique name change that took place 5 years ago, when three artists officially changed their names into the name of the Prime Minister of Slovenia, Janez Janša."
